One-Bowl Applesauce Walnut Cake

Easy one-cup snack recipes with mild seasoning. Speckled with crispy toasted walnuts and raisins it is a homestyle classic.



Fancy cakes, stirred with frozen garnishes, interspersed with roses and ombre, are always a treat for the eyes and stomach, but if you have limited time, or you have no energy, easy snack cake recipes are in place. This one bowl apple cake can be made with or without an electric mixer and pure, simple ingredients in an apple cake you might already have on hand. This Walnut Apple Sauce cake is snacking nirvana!

This recipe was adapted from my grandmother's apple sauce cake. It feels lightly spiced, moist, fragrant and studded with crispy toasted walnuts and sweet golden raisin spots. And that's easy. Very easy.


How to Make One Bowl Apple Cake
Mix dry ingredients (flour, sugar, baking powder, salt & spices) and stir together.
Add the wet ingredients (applesauce, vegetable oil, eggs) and stir to mix.
Stir in golden walnuts and raisins.
Pour into prepared pans.
Burn.


Homemade Apple Cakes - Best Snack Cake Recipes
This one-cup apple cake is as easy as a cake mix, but with far better results. Of course, nothing is artificial. Without preservatives and if you feel comfortable measuring and stirring, you will succeed here. My grandmother usually has one bowl of apple cake in hand when we come to visit and we like it because it is soft and tender, lightly seasoned and does not require a fork and plate to eat. Only your hands and mouth are all you need for this family snack cake recipe.

Decorate the Apple Sauce Walnuts
If you prefer apple sauce cake without decoration, please leave raisins and walnuts. We like them for taste and texture, but if you are a purist, that's cool too. Either way, this apple sauce cake will be the winner. We like us with a sprinkling of powdered sugar, but it's also good with a spoonful of whipped cream or a vanilla spoon.
I like to coat my baking sheet with parchment paper so that it is easily removed.

Grilling One-Bowl Apple Cake

  1. Simply cut a piece of parchment to fit the width of the pan with some hanging on both sides.
  2. Spray the pan with vegetable spray, press baking paper into the pan and spray again.
  3. Spread the apple cake mixture into the pan and bake it.

The whole house smells like this cake bakes and you probably won't want to wait for it to cool before cutting a slice. Up to you.



Can I freeze the apple sauce walnuts?
If you want to adventure, you can freeze it with cream cheese or buttercream. That's also amazing. I have no patience at this time and go with a sprinkling of powdered sugar. Even though there are only two of us at home, this apple sauce cake disappears in two days. Do not lie!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 glass of sugar
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg (freshly grated if you have it)
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/8 teaspoon of cloves
  • 1 3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup canola or vegetable oil
  • 1 large lightly beaten egg
  • 1 cup roasted and chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins


INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 °. Spray a 9x9 "square pan with vegetable spray and coat it with rectangular parchment paper pieces to fit the dimensions of the bottom of the pan with a few inches on both sides to hang around the edges. Spray the parchment paper using vegetable spray then set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves, stirring until smooth. Make a well in dry ingredients and add applesauce, vegetable oil, and eggs. Stir until evenly mixed. Stir in walnuts and raisins, then apply to a prepared frying pan.
  3. Bake for 55-65 minutes or until the toothpicks come out clean. Chill in a pan for 15 minutes then carefully remove the cake with the side of the parchment paper and transfer it to a wire rack to cool to room temperature.
  4. You can freeze it with your favorite cheese cream or butter frosting or just dust it with powdered sugar.
